Bring your contracts
If a courier network, broker, property manager or general contractor requires certain coverage, have the contract open when the agent calls. Requirements such as additional insured status, waiver of subrogation or specific cargo limits are much easier to quote correctly from the start.
Be specific about use
Say how many miles the van covers in a typical week, whether it crosses state lines, where it is parked overnight and whether it is used for personal driving. These details decide how the van is classified and what the policy covers.
Adding vans later
If you plan to add vans or drivers soon, mention it. Some policies need each vehicle and driver added before use, and a growing fleet may qualify for different options.
Free and optional
A van quote request costs nothing. Accept an offer or walk away, it is your call.
What happens next
Once you choose a policy, the insurer issues it and the agent can send certificates of insurance to customers, networks or landlords. Keep a digital copy of the insurance card in each van, and set a reminder before renewal to review drivers, vans and contracts again.
Fleet growth
Small fleets of a few vans may be written differently from a single van, and some insurers offer fleet options as vehicles are added.
